Additional Demon Slayer print projects were disclosed via the official VIZ Media Twitter account on Friday, February 3, 2023. The announcements are a part of a broader batch that covers all of their significant 2023 releases.
It is a particularly significant day for the franchise because the announcement coincides with the official release of the Demon Slayer season 3 opening theme. The third season will also debut in the near future in Japanese cinemas before making its North American debut on February 18, 2023, at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, California.
The Kimetsu Academy manga is the spin-off manga that VIZ Media has confirmed will be released in English this year.
The characters and overall plot of the mainline series appear to have been reworked for a contemporary school setting, based on the cover image. Creator of the primary series, author, and illustrator Koyoharu Gotouge, along with Natsuki Hokami, are responsible for the initial concept.
The manga will be published in the fall of 2023, according to a tweet from VIZ. The Corps Record companion book, which Koyoharu Gotouge herself wrote and illustrated, was also made public. The book “includes all the information a fan could desire about the series, in addition to never-before-reprinted bonus manga,” according to a tweet from VIZ.
The “bonus manga” will probably include extra pages that weren’t included in the first run of the main series. The accompanying book will be published in the fall of 2023, according to a tweet from VIZ. The third season’s opening theme was also formally announced, along with the two VIZ Media releases.
The theme, Kizuna no Kiseki (Bonds of Miracle), will be performed by the musicians milet and MAN WITH A MISSION. The song’s teaser may be heard on Aniplex’s official YouTube channel. The third season will also make its Japanese theatre debut the weekend of February 3, with the Los Angeles premiere following on February 18.
There will be more of these theatre showings in February and March, leading up to the third season’s telecast, which is scheduled to begin at some point in April 2023. No precise release date for the eagerly anticipated sequel season has been given as of the time this article was written.
The screening will provide a summary of the final two episodes of the Demon Slayer’s Entertainment District arc, which mostly focus on Tanjiro and company’s pivotal battle against the Upper-Rank Six Moons Gyutaro and Daki. The third act of the screening will then feature the first episode of the Swordsmith Village arc. It is not yet known whether this format will debut on television.
