Wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr., who the Cleveland Browns signed at the last minute during training camp because Marquise Goodwin was sick, is allegedly being released.

Watkins Jr. connected quickly with the Browns' rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson after a strong performance at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

During the preseason, he had the most receiving yards in the NFL and continued to dazzle with stunning receptions even when the stakes were high.

Now he'll be available on the waiver wire for any club to claim, provided he makes their 53-man roster.

The Browns may prefer to have him join the practice squad if he goes unclaimed because the receiving room is now full due to Goodwin's return this week.

There will be further updates throughout the day about roster decisions.
