The 2023 Emmys were supposed to happen in September of last year. However, this month is when they finally took place due to the simultaneous strikes by writers and actors.

When the 2023 Creative Arts Emmy Awards winners were revealed on Sunday, January 7, 2024, it was revealed that The Simpsons episode with the Death Note parody had won.

The episode in question was Treehouse of Horror XXXIII, a 2022 Halloween special that has been a regular yearly occurrence for the show since its 2nd season.

After being nominated for the Outstanding Animated Programme award several times over the years, The Simpsons parody episode featuring Death Note emerged victorious.

Since the 1990 award season, Treehouse of Horror has won the category a total of 12 times, including its most recent success.

The Simpsons: Death of Parody wins an Emmy Award

The Simpsons’ Death Note spoof, which airs in the 33rd Treehouse of Horror episode, stars Lisa Simpson as Light Yagami, who discovers a strange book marked Death Tome.

The inner cover of the book has various rules and directions on how to utilize it, much like the homicidal book from the original anime.

Even though the parody deviates slightly from the plot of the original anime, Lisa is given an opponent in L, portrayed by her brother Bart, and her shinigami, Steve Johnson.

Bart’s graffiti-tagging alter persona, El Barto, whose signature can be found all over the made-up town of Springfield in several prior series episodes, is referenced in the casting of Bart as L.

In a 2014 episode of Treehouse of Horror, the Simpsons mocked Attack on Titan, Bleach, Naruto, Spirited Away, and Pokémon, among other anime series.
