Evangeline Lilly, who starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania, showed no interest in taking on the role of Wonder Woman. Lilly recently told Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Mad, Confused podcast that she met with director Joss Whedon about playing the title character in a Wonder Woman movie, but she said she wasn’t interested in the job.

She spoke about how she immediately gave Whedon the sense that she “had no ambition” for the job when asked about fans’ casting her as Diana Prince, citing the meeting as one of the reasons. Lilly said that nothing “clicked” during the chat, and Whedon couldn’t get her to show any interest at any point.

The former Lost actor says she was “too young” to be polite at the time and didn’t want to act like she was excited to play the Amazonian superhero. Lilly claims that Whedon recognised her lack of excitement for the project right away and understood she had no desire to be a part of it.

Lilly talked about how honest she is when she turns down roles. She said that she has always struggled with being too honest when she doesn’t want to do something. She added, “If I’m not impressed, you’ll know, and sometimes you shouldn’t know.” The performer went so far as to say that her dismissive attitude towards the chance to play Wonder Woman offended some people.

Eventually, a Wonder Woman movie was produced, with Gal Gadot playing the lead role and winning considerable praise for it.

In contrast, Lilly took a step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Hope Van Dyne in the Ant-Man films. The most recent MCU film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is also the Phase 5 kickstarter.

Along with Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man and Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, it stars Lilly as Hope, the titular Wasp. The movie follows these individuals as they journey into the Quantum Realm and run into Jonathan Majors’ scary Kang the Conqueror.
