Shanks, one of the Four Emperors, is the one who gave Luffy the idea to become a pirate and go out on this journey.
Despite being a genuine series icon, not much is known about Shanks, who continues to have a captivating yet enigmatic aura. After defeating Kaido, Luffy was recognized as one of the Four Emperors. Benn Beckman, his right-hand man, was informed by Shanks that he intended to take part in the rush to the One Piece. As a result, there may be a lot more likelihood that Luffy and Shanks may fight.
Shanks, a former apprentice in the Roger Pirates, built his gang and eventually rose to the rank of an extremely powerful pirate. He is one of the Four Emperors and one of the very few figures who can compete against Dracule Mihawk, the World’s Strongest Swordsman, on an equal footing.

The object quickly rose to the top of Luffy’s valued possessions. He was so moved by it that he gave his band the moniker Strawhat Pirates. Luffy still regards Shanks as his role model and childhood hero, and he worships him.
The straw hat Shanks gave him, which he promised to return after he had established himself as a legendary pirate, serves as the physical representation of their relationship. Many years after the incident, Shanks bragged that he had staked his arm on a new era.
This made clear how much he trusted Luffy. He is undoubtedly the person Luffy aspires to be like and ultimately surpass. Since the day Shanks gave him the priceless straw hat, Luffy has made it clear that he wants to one day surpass him.
Luffy said that he wants to fight every Emperor during the Punk Hazard arc, fully aware that Shanks is one of them.
